Just finished this today. 15 1/4" x 11". When I saw a series of photos (thanks to Jacqui Hawke for permission to use) of this group riding the water pools along the beach, I wanted to paint this scene. I took elements from three of the photos and created my own. I love the reflections in the pools.
A few techniques: odd numbers, sky swirl leads to main horse and rider (focal point), focal pt. in lower right quadrant, horizon below middle of scene, main sand section leads to other horses, +(dark, medium, and light values of which one should be more coverage than the others).

Oh Ruth - I love this one! Wouldn't it be fun to ride along the beach like that! Great job - wonderful complimentary palette and the reflections are spot on! This is a WOW! Thanks for sharing the wip for this one and sharing your techniques! How can one not be inspired after a visit to your blog!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful painting. As I was reading the tips, I was thinking - "I see that - wow". What size is the painting?
ReplyDeleteRuth - everything is great with this one. Of course the horses and their reflections are great, but I love how you designed the sky swirls - they do just pull it all together.
