"HATS"

When I started to work on this painting, my watercolor mentor, Suzanne Binnie, told me I should do a series of  "hat" paintings. So I embarked on that series. They have been fun and have taught me many things about watercolor, portraits, skin tone, shapes, rounded shapes (even noses are rounded shapes), textures, patterns, composition, backgrounds, etc.
It's good to do series. Gives cohesiveness to your portfolio/body of work.
In this one, I learned contrasting patterned background work using tape to block off the squares. Also learned how to better control salt to give the texture in the hats.
