Another hat painting: "The Striped Hat"

This young girl with her red curly hair and fiery temper is actually an adorable loveable friend of the family. Always with a hat on the beach because of her fair skin, she makes for an adorable subject.
In this painting I learned how to zero in on a subject and let the background carry the viewer to her place of contemplation. Note she is placed off center; the features of her face would be the first place to attract the eye so that is placed in lower left quadrant. Note the contast between smooth areas and patterened areas. There should be more of one than the other.

  2. Great job on that curly red hair! You certainly captured her skin tones and the blues and oranges just dance together. Terrific!
